about the artist

Hi.  Welcome to my webpage.

My paintings are inspired by the amazing land and waterscapes of the Georgian Bay area.  There is something about the light here, in all its moods, that inspires me like nowhere else.

I began painting over twenty-five years ago while still working full time.  I took night courses at the Toronto School of the Arts, weekend seminars,  and read every "how to paint" book I could get from the Library.  On weekends I painted in my kitchen, only clearing the paints away for meal-time.

More recently, I have gone on to study painting at Georgian College and the Haliburton School of the Arts.  Workshops with some of the amazing professional painters in my area including Sue Miller, Peter AdamsJohn David Anderson and Martha Bull have been a wonderful way of learning new approaches to painting.   Being an artist is about learning and more learning!

I currently work out of the Mill Street Art Studio in Creemore, Ontario.

As with other art forms, paintings are a place where what's "out there" meets what's "in here."  My question before beginning any landscape painting is "How can I become quiet enough to allow the soul of this land to express itself through my brush?"

For us, there is only the trying. The rest is not our business. (T. S. Eliot - East Coker)
